Think Global. Act Local.

Think Global.

Act Local.

As we process the impacts and opportunities created by the pandemic, the old saying: “Think Global Act Local” seems particularly relevant.

We need to start thinking about the big, universal trends that will affect us in the near and long term.

This article by the World Economic Forum does as good a job as any at summarizing them.

But once we get our head around the “big picture”, we need to translate that to our local circumstances. How do these trends affect our community? Our industry? Our specific business?

And – of course – now we have the old $64 Thousand Dollar Question: What are we going to do about it?

In future articles we will explore issues and options, but we think it is important to start with a couple of guideposts:

  1. We must try to understand macro trends as best as we can – knowing they are evolving before our eyes.

  2. We must think through a range of alternative scenarios for local impacts.

  3. We must pick a path forward – BUT – understand that we need to be incredibly nimble, learning and adapting as we go.

  4. We must keep learning, keep experimenting, keep getting better every day.
